Pierre Chanoine founded the Chanoine House on the Faubourg de la Folie (the current Avenue de Champagne) in Epernay in 1730. Originally from Champagne, he was a vineyard owner and took over the trading business established by his father Claude at the end of the 17th century to turn it into an international family business. Following in his footsteps, the company took on its current name, "Chanoine Frères".
The almost 300 years of existence of Chanoine Frères contributes to the rich historical heritage of the Champagne region.
In 1730, Chanoine Frères undertook the excavation of the first Champagne cellars in Epernay, in order to store the wines not in barrels but in bottles, following the royal edict of March 25th, 1728. He was at the origin of what is now the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay.
In 1830, Chanoine Frères created one of the very first champagne paper labels, from which our new range is directly inspired.
In 1991, Chanoine Frères opened a new chapter in its history by moving to the “Allée du vignoble” in Reims, creating one of the first above-ground cellars in Champagne.
